Doctoral Candidate Nixon Ricardo Arauz presented his research at the 26th Annual Graduate Research Symposium at Virginia Commonwealth University. 

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) annual graduate student research symposium took place on April 25th, 2023 at the University Student Commons. The event is sponsored by the Graduate Student Association & the Graduate School with the goal of showcasing the outstanding research conducted by graduate students at VCU.

This year 89 research projects were presented by graduate students across campus. One of the presenters was Nixon R. Arauz, who currently serves as a graduate research assistant with the Kalpulli Research Group. For his research, Nixon utilized cross-sectional data from the Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System 2019-2021 to examine correlates of human papillomavirus vaccine uptake among Black and White Latinx adults in the United States.

"It's important to participate in the graduate research symposium because part of your identity as a  student is to be able to present the research you do with other academics and individuals interested in your work," said Nixon.

Members of the Kalpulli Research Group were in attendance at the graduate symposium. Sania Pullen, a pre-dental hygiene student and undergraduate research assistant with the group, mentioned that Nixon's presence at the symposium reflects his commitment to pursuing a career in health disparities research.
